This graphic is one of many that I share on the
Tutor/Mentor Connection blog and Tutor/Mentor Institute web site. It is intended to help leaders of volunteer based tutor/mentor programs in Chicago and other cities build volunteer-involvement strategies that have greater long-term impact on the lives and career success of kids, and on the programs where the kids and volunteers connect.…

There area a number of projects and events that the Better Detroit Youth Movement is working on and considering as well. We have a lot of "irons in the fire" and more are being asked for. We are part of an EXPANDING conversation and THAT is a very good thing. As approval from the organization comes through, items are post on the site.

I'm faced with making a move this week. That means my time available for online promotions is being reduced dramatically as I take on packing and coordinating the move.
I NEED your assistance. I keep seeing young people on Facebook and Myspace posting "I'm bored", or answering yet one more silly quiz/survey with pointless answers. What can we (not just me) do to engage them in a different way to use their social networking time? Could they be involved with the…

Had a great time with several of the youth from the Better Detroit Youth Movement. Asia, Mya, Mela & Mae participated in the Youth Summit sponsored by the Freedom Institute. All and all everything was okay...but the highlight occurred when several of the youth got an opportunity to participate in a mock interview provided by Ford Motor Company Exec's. The Youth represented very well - Mya, Mela & Mae..... (Asia's still a baby so her time is coming LOL..) Any way the Exec's were very plea…

We’ve taken our eyes off the prize.
Our gifts.
Our babies.
Our children.
Our future.
For too long. Far too long. Far too lost.
Far too many, too far gone.
Today, the things that matter most to our youth shouldn’t.
And the ones who should matter most, don’t.
The things they want to be, they’ll never see.
The things they should see, they’ll probably never be.
Why?
Because, we’ve taken our eyes off the prize.
So tomorrow, it’s time to reclaim our young generation.
I know it’ll be hard…

Through ArtServe Michigan I learned about the meeting I attended tonight. It brought together creative people from around Detroit to the Majestic complex for an informal gathering to discover what the creative community at large was doing to be known, extend, and nurture.
Kim Dabbs from ArtServe was our primary leader for the night. Since this was an informal gathering the space wasn't truly laid out and reserved. Eventually the group split into three double table settings of 6-8 people gathere…

I took the reigns on creating the website for Soldier Rock Fash Bash on July 21, 2008. I've been in discussion daily with Maria Wade, the main producer for the event. We are putting this on as a tribute to the troops and donating 100% of profits to veterans organizations.
It has been a busy past few weeks assembling the website, posting notices around the web and pulling talent in on the project, which languished since concept in November 2007. We are in the final stretch and things ar

The past week has been a flurry of activity from posting photos from last weekend's 3 back-to-back events into creating the DivaTv website. The past two days have been busy in constructing and design of the site. I've spent hours on phone and chat with Nikki.
So you might be asking about the purpose for Diva Tv. Currently the About page on the site starts with this introductory paragraph:

Youth aches to achieve
To import is not enough
Must generate our
Selves and Our
Dreams In Reality
To SEE
and BE Seen
Youth fears not being
Enough without
Guidance and Wisdom
But that is importing
Another into Self
Or is it?
We are the sum of
Experience
Good, Bad and Ugly
Celebrated only
By others
Questioned and Feared
By Self
I say I value
Your opinion
Then dismiss it
And SECRETLY
Cherish it
But know it is not MINE
I WANT ME
But I keep getting YOU
I ask how can
I loose you
TO FIND ME and
I c…

I told you I couldn’t wait to write about match stick models. Hold on to your seats if you have one this may be a bumpy ride!
My disclaimer: What you are about to read will probably upset those of you who think 5′ 9” at 100 lbs is acceptable, and you know who you are.
If your boyfriend or husband has told you, it feels like he’s laying on coat hangers when you snuggle, then you are a match stick model.
I have seen a lot of portfolios. Woe onto the models who have gone through all the trouble…
