Emerging Leaders Network meeting

Through ArtServe Michigan I learned about the meeting I attended tonight. It brought together creative people from around Detroit to the Majestic complex for an informal gathering to discover what the creative community at large was doing to be known, extend, and nurture.

Kim Dabbs from ArtServe was our primary leader for the night. Since this was an informal gathering the space wasn't truly laid out and reserved. Eventually the group split into three double table settings of 6-8 people gathered at each. Minutes from the meeting will be compiled together and shared to those attending. We filled out a registration sheet offering our email address.

First question put to the attendees was what do we feel we need. I spoke up and said that a unified calendar of events would be very helpful. Planning and supporting events is not easy when dozens of calendars have to be checked to know what is happening. Mention was made of GreatStuffToDo.com for its event calendaring ability, this is a site I didn't know about. TheDetroiter.com and DetroitMakeItHere.com (ran by Crain's Business) were also mentioned.

Additional areas of interest that were mentioned in our split out groups: The marketing and PR of artists, development through mentoring programs, and funding of artist initiatives.

There was talk of the Cultural Alliance of SE Michigan, Noel Night (in early December), and I mentioned Detroit Synergy as well.
