The past week has been a flurry of activity from posting photos from last weekend's 3 back-to-back events into creating the DivaTv website. The past two days have been busy in constructing and design of the site. I've spent hours on phone and chat with Nikki.
So you might be asking about the purpose for Diva Tv. Currently the About page on the site starts with this introductory paragraph:
Diva TV is an urban reality talk show. Our concept is to explore and exhibit the untapped avenues around our inner city and communities that offer fun and excitement on an upscale level. The show centers around a group of friends who share and discuss various views on urban society issues; such as Love, Sex, Relationships, Art, Poetry Culture, and Fashion. They explore the music industry of Jazz, Blues, Hip Hop, and R&B artists. Their conversations take place in a variety of inner city events and locations which are promoted through each show segment.
However what has me connect with the show is an underlying purpose Nikki has shared with me of promoting HIV/AIDS awareness through the topics discussed on the shows. The episodes will feature the Diva Dollz out on the streets at various events. This is a grown and sexy series with content that is for adult conversation.
The question of when to talk with our youth about 'adult' topics becomes an issue. Society as a whole has evolved an impression that an intimate relationship is a temporal thing. The notion that there will be a time that it will expire has our youth wondering what to do. Should they simply make a half-hearted attempt and watch for the signs to get out?
I am curious about the position of teens and would love to follow up on the notion of Diva Tv and bring it to our teens. Society creates a lot of red-tape in publicizing our youth. Many of them want to be heard, but their relationship with parents and guardians can be tenuous and squelch their voice. Consider at what age would you allow your child to speak about intimate relationships publicly. Then the question is respect for their position as a media correspondent. You have to be responsible and offer guidance through media. Otherwise all we have is inconsiderate noise.
Obviously there's more to explore on this concept. Hurdles to remove and empowering conversations to be held. Interested?
